I think I can say that this is my favorite short film I have ever seen. Gorgeous.Moving.Incredible.
I found nothing wrong with this film. It moved me so much and reminds me how I try to go about things in my life. Two things caught me in this film: The difference One Man Can Make a Difference and Doing Something Society Says is Impossible.
1) I don't know how many of you know what parkour is, but it is a sport discipline about other coming physical and mental obstacles in life. It has a deep philosophy that resonates with me. One traceur (parkour practitioner) I admire is Daniel Ilabaca. He is a Christian traceur who is world renown for his movement and philosophy. To him parkour is life. He speaks often about the way he talks through his movement and what it means. In his travels he spoke to a group of guy in Cologne about the Chocalate industry and 85% of the industry is run by slaves. "He says why should we enjoy chocolate? Why should we rise up against a company who is bigger then all of us?" Then he says , "One man has the ability to change the world, one man has enough light in him to make a whole in an industry that seems impossible to break." I relate this to the fact that the one man in the film changed the world. He planted thousands of trees that started new life, not only for nature, but the human race.
And know I go on to my second point and Daniel explains the other thing that caught me in the film.
2) Daniel goes on to talk about how people now are trying to understand what the world wants us to think and do but not what we have lost through the world. He also adds that there would be no need for Jesus if we knew the difference between right and wrong. He says ''that there is a purpose for everyone and if you are just doing parkour (or whatever you are doing in life) just to be happy, it is selfish. There is a path for everyone and before you learn to take that leap of faith and believe in something you can't see (or the world says is wrong) and something that is far beyond you and you know your calling is to do what you feel is asked of you, because it is more important. All that it takes for us to do something is to know in our hearts that whatever it is can happen.'' The man in the film knew he had a purpose in life, he stopped doing what he liked to do, (Being a shepherd) and started keeping bees because he knew his calling was to grow the trees and give them the best chance of living. The only way the men in the film could describe what they saw when they looked at the trees, was to say that it was a natural forest. The world would say that one man could never do what he did. But with God's power we can do anything
No I challenge all of you, when you are doing art, making films, animation, what have you, to make sure you are doing it for the right reason. make sure that you are doing it to effect other lives and help your own walk.
Thanks you
