How to Train Your Dragon

Tonight we watched How to Train Your Dragon on the lawn.  I had never seen the movie before but I really enjoyed it!  I love how the movie showed that something that was seen as fierce and terrifying by the village ended up being a fantastic pet.  I started to wonder if there could be parallels drawn to the Native Americans.  The settlers misunderstood them and thus provoked them to war instead of attempting to befriend them and living in harmony.  I'm not sure if that's a totally stupid idea or not but I did start to think about it.  How to Train Your Dragon was definitely a feel-good movie.  There was a really obvious arc to the story.  But it was a feel-good movie that did just what is was supposed to very well.  At the end, everything came together perfectly like a fairy tale and they all lived happily ever after.  I really liked the personalities they gave the dragons.  I thought they definitely made them more endearing and lovable, especially with Toothless.  All in all, I thought it was a good movie even though it was sort of predictable from the beginning.

  1. I got the whole "native american parallel vibe" too. Like Avatar and Pocahontas. Original or not, I believe that this movie was meant to be, like you said, a feel good kid's movie. And that it was. With that being said... I enjoyed it!
