I thought this short film was really great and of coure heartfelt. I really liked the story and it showed true to if someone else took your child's heart (due to the fact that their dead), how would you feel? Would you be able to accept it or not?
I really thought the music video shown in class from the playingforchange organization was amazing. The different talented musicians from around the world coming together to do this beautiful piece of music was great to see.
I have never listened to Johnny Cash before, I don't I never really had an interest to. But after seeing his "Hurt" Music video, I think I will check out more music by him. The music video, I guess is left up to the individual to interpt it the way they want. I just saw it as different things in life that make a person hurt, makes a person want to give up, but they find a reason to continue to live on.
I guess I never really thought about watching or doing doucumentaries that much. But now I realize that capturing that raw, real truth is what doucumentarys are for and why they exist. Through this lesson I've learned I will now make the effort to watch moreMilton Rogovin as well as thinking about perhaps doing it myself.
I guess of all types of films I had never really watched doucumentries, mostly the ones I watched in the past were a bit boring. But watching the doc. on Milton and his photography was great. The story was really beautiful about how he goes into these places that are more and takes pictures of people over the years as they grow/age/change. It was interesting because it was the first photography work I had seen on poor people, that wasn't in a news article. It was simply work on people that are otherwise forgotten by society.
The film was sad in the sense since it was about abuse/rape in a messed up relationship. I got the symbolizim in the women being the chicken/bird (human can control the chicken/bird), and how even if the relationship is messed up the women keeps going back again and again almost as if she is brainwashed and afraid at the same time.
On Nov. 8 I went and listened to Nicole Dreiske speak on Spirit vs. The Spin: Affirming Your Valves in the Secular workplace. I came out with my eyes opened a bit. The points she pointed out on how in a secular workplace they don't exactly want you thinking outside the box, but staying within the realm proved to be true. That in order to make an impact you have to go do subjects that have true value/heart in them. I really liked how she presented and her energy.
"One day, a man entered my belly. And it was a shock when he left." At first when I was watching this film, I didn't understand, but as it went on I got what was going on. I guess it's a film on relationships and the sexually as well as the emotional part that goes into those relationships.
By Christine Roche- tells the story of a family so dysfuctional that it leads to sexually abuse/immoratlty. The film the way it was done, was both disturbing and powerful. It's a subject that can get a lot of people uncomfortable (brother having sex with sister, resulting in pregnancy), but it is an issue that goes on out there in the world, even if no one is talking about or wanting to.
I guess all these years when I've watched movies such as Ratatouille, The Incredibles, etc. I never knew what was used was CG Animation. I guess it was cool to discovery that as well as to check out more and how the process to do CG is done exactly, I don't know just out of interest and knowledge.
Women have a lot of contributions in Animation and I've enjoyed discovering the works of Caroline Leaf, Wendy Tilby, Michelle Cournoyer and Christine Roche. Although their deals with the usually women issues (pregnancy, rape, sexually abuse, abuse). I don't know maybe I wanted more? Something else? I hear about these same issues over and over again and although yes, they are important to talk about, is that all there is when it comes to a women doing film? Only womenly issues? I don't know, maybe thats just me and how it bothers and sometimes bothers me that they aren't any other issues that be done when a women does animation...
I also developed an interest in Korean movies! Korean movies really always aim to hit the heart, always making you feel and I end crying when I watch some of them. But anyway The Host (The Host (괴물, Gwoemul - "Monster") is a great monster film and unlike American films which uses the same cliches over and over again when it comes to monster films, this one actually has a new twist and combines the elements of drama and comedy. I think this film was shown in Signs & Wonders, but I had already checked it out on my own before then. I don't want to give anything away, go check it!
If you haven't watched the film Bella directed and written by Alejandro Gomez Monteverde and starring Eduardo Verastegui and Tammy Blanchard, please check it out its a great film. Tells the story about certain choices, one has to make and how it can affect our lives all well as others.
I recently started, well not recently but for about three years now I've been really into South Korea
and the culture, food, fashion. I started on the interest of South Korea through music! In 2009 I discovered a new genre of music I had never heard before called k-pop. Wow! It was almost like a hidden world, I mean a lot of Western musical elements are used as well as European music, but I had never heard of it before until I saw a video of the famous k-pop group called Wondersgirls. If you don't know about k-pop, indie pop, hip-hop,korean traditional music, etc. Check it out you won't regret it and I'm sure you'll get hooked like I did.
Now as I got more and more immersed in the South Korean (North Korea doesn't do any/allowed) I came upon dramas. In the United States, T.V shows are called shows and in Korea their called 'dramas' which makes sense since a lot if not all, always have drama in them. But anyway as I got more interested, I discovered the drama called Secret Garden. Now this drama is honestly better than any American TV show I've seen. I mean it mixes drama, comdey, mystery, sci-fiction and romance all in one! And honestly I really also liked it (and it is now as of now one of my favorite korean dramas of all time) because of the honesty. The romance was done how it should have been done, instead of how it is alwayds done in America- boy and girl meet each other and lust after one another without actually falling in love and then they randomly have sex. But in this drama and a lot of other Korean dramas (now I'm not saying all of the dramas don't have the wrong sexually immortailty as American shows do, but there is not as much or done so much that it becomes diguesting) the main characters actually meet each other, don't neccessarily get along at first, but as time permits they start to like each other, which then turns into love and then they get married and then the sex part comes (which is how it should always be). But now I'm just blabbering, so if you want a show that mixes all the elements that were mentioned before, check out this drama! The dramas are in Korean, but I watched first in Korean and got what was going on becuse of the great acting/movements becuase I am interested in learning korean. Then I re-watched with English subs which you can find on the web or on hulu!
Watching this film, at first I was very confused as to what was going on. But as the film went on, I understood that or at least I interpreted that the the sand creature that was first shown, and how he started "creating" other sand creatures was suppose to represent God. Then with the building of the sand castle and the creatures going in just as the sandstorm hit, reminded me of Noah's Ark (with the two and two of creatures) and the sandcastle representing the Ark. Then there was that snake that keep getting the way, almost representing satan causing trouble and trying to stop the process of the buliding of the sandcastle. Anyway those are my interpretations on the film and I thought the film was quite interesting, because these interpretations weren't put out front, you kind of had to watch and then you realized afterwards.
I thought this children film was interesting as well as dark and sadly portrayig the real world. In the world of a child there should be innocent and fun, but sadly there is also the dark side to the world that affect children everyday and take away that innocence(the dragon). Either way I thought the way the film should that with blocks and paper like children was impressive getting one the points in the film across.
I just recently went to the reader theatre performance of Good People (I really like reader theatre) and I was really impressed by the actors, but mostly the story. The question was left "what is a good person?" and "is anyone really a good person?" And at the end of the play the person you didn't expect to actually do a "good deed" does it, which really puts a twist to the story, but also shows realism because sometimes the people you expect to act good, don't but the ones you don't expect to act good do. So either way the play was great and very powerful. If you have a chance go see it, it got me thinking and I'm sure it will for you if you go see the play with open ears/eyes and hearts/minds.
The Discussion we had about living in a Post-Christian Society nowadays, but my question is when was America ever a Christian country? You can not tell me that slavery, the way the government worked, racism, etc. the list go on, but anyway you can not tell those things exampled Christian behavior. The truth this country was never a Christian country nor did it start with it, it's said it was, but so many things have contradiction to those statements. That is the reason why as the days go on, years, this country is getting farther and farther away from God.
I know that a lot of "childhood stories" have other meanings, but the point is that I've never thought of Red Riding Hood other than the story everyone has heard; girl goes into woods to visit her grandmother and meets the wolf and the lesson of not talking to strangers. And now after discussing Into the Woods in class I decided to look up the story and discovered that the story has other interpretations, many being....sigh sexual. It's been interpretated as being seen a parable of sexual maturity. Or another one saying that the red cloak symbolizes the blood of menstruation, braving the "dark forest" of womanhood. And another one saying that the wolf symbolizes a man, who could be a lover, seducer or sexual predator. Pretty much the story is an explanation into the entry of adulthood.
Sigh...this really lifts up the facade I had on this story and many others sadly a bit, I want to see it as only the story I grew up hearing, but now this opens my eyes up a bit and I guess I will never look at the story the same actually, oh well.
I've never actually thought of this...which sounds silly but it's not something I usually think about until it's mentioned. Something HAS to be lovable before it can be loved. Just a thought I guess for me to think about...
