It was this week last year in my high school TV class, normally we were supposed to put together a weekly news show, but since the week was short because of finals, I asked my teacher if we could do an office spoof instead and air it for the school. He said if we could do it well we could put one on.
This short parody is my brainchild. I wrote, directed, and edited the entire thing, and I act in it for just a second. It was very fun to do because normally my role on that show was to be an anchor, editor, and write the script for the teleprompter. My friend had all the creative control and directing privileges.

Short Film
Here's our final short film for editing class. Our group consisted of:
Nathan Corder
Josiah Wood
Lindsey Berggren
Robert Scheribel
Sam Doughty
Kelsey McCoy
From concept to render, it was a 4 day process. We had four weeks for the project, but things fell apart with our original story and plan and we had to get creative. Like Leeper says, limits can be a good thing... enjoy

My 6th Favorite Movie of All Time: The Godfather (1972)
#6 - The Godfather (1972) starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall - Rotten Tomato Score of 100%
This is perhaps the greatest movie of all time, and any list you can google should come pretty close to backing that up. One of its biggest competitors for the top spot, in fact, is the sequel. The acting is all stunning, the plot & set design are wonderfully authentic, the score is unforgettable and the editing is a wonder, the way the pace is set and the way the sub-plots unfold along with the main one. I got really into these movies when I was in seventh grade, and it inspired me to read the novel. I have to say, this is one of the rare cases where the movie is a work of art that stands out on its own alongside the novel rather than in its shadow. 100/100 from me.

My 7th Favorite Movie of All Time: Finding Nemo (2003)
#7 - Finding Nemo (2003) starring Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould - Rotten Tomato Score of 98%
Most of these reviews aren't reviews, they're just my opinion. This one, however, I would defend to the point of showing emotion. I would love to hear what any of you don't like about this perfect movie. Say what you want about Pixar, nine times out of ten (or perhaps more often) they DELIVER, in every way they can. The animation is lovely to watch. I could watch the movie twice in a row on mute. What's prettier than the ocean!? And PIXAR doing the OCEAN? I just wanna be it. On the other hand, I listen to the soundtrack on a regular basis. It tugs on the heartstrings from start to finish. Then, the story. This movie is about so many things. Family, courage, loss, perseverance, friendship, trust, and it all winds together so perfectly. I should stop now, because I could write my next six reviews about this one.

My 8th Favorite Movie of All Time: The Fox & The Hound (1981)
#8 - The Fox & The Hound (1981) starring Mickey Rooney, Kurt Russell - Rotten Tomato Score of 68%
This is full of nostalgia. Obviously I love this movie for its sentimental value. I think I saw it when I was like 3, and it was definitely my first favorite ever. To this day, it's still a beautiful story about friendship and getting over differences. This film was a debut for a new group of animators from Disney, and it's quite a lovely movie to look at. Robert Eber from the Chicago Sun Times said of the film: "The bottom line, I suppose, is: Will kids like this movie? And the answer is, sure, I think so." To me, this is the best criteria to judge a children's movie by.

My 9th Favorite Movie of All Time: The Dark Knight (2008)
#9 - The Dark Knight (2008) starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, & Aaron Eckhart - Rotten Tomato Score of 94%
This movie is so exciting. From beginning to end, the cinematography, sounds, story, everything is going full blast. I don't really need to say much about Ledger's performance as The Joker, as everyone already knows that it is the stuff of legend. This is the type of movie that, after I bought it, I seriously watched it like ten times just because its so entertaining each time. I'm not much for action movies, but this one looks so good and is just so well-done that its hard not to love. It was a perfect combination of leadership and talent, and Hans Zimmer on the score is always a good decision. Just brilliant. Genius.
EDIT: this movie would be a little higher on my list if Christian Bale didn't use that goofy voice, lol

My 10th Favorite Movie of All Time: The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
#10 - The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - starring Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton - Rotten Tomato Score of 90%
Now, if most of you haven't seen this, I can honestly say I'm disappointed. First of all, MORGAN FREEMAN is in this movie. Need I say more? He gives his usual mind-blowing performance, and is joined by a great performance from Tim Robbins. To me, good acting is such a necessity to a good film, and this cast is top-notch. Like the novel "East of Eden", this movie expresses to me the longings of the human heart--friendship, freedom, and happiness. This is an ABSOLUTE MUST-SEE. This movie could easily be #1 on my list.

My 11th Favorite Movie of All Time: Notorious (2009)
#11 - Notorious (2009) starring Jamal Woolard, Anthony Mackie, Derek Luke - Rotten Tomato Score of 50%
Okay, so I expect that most of you haven't seen or don't like this one. Most critics gave it a bad review as well, but only for what they call lack of insight into Biggie's thoughts. Of course, the cast and crew found these difficult to obtain, since during every day of production the character the movie was based off of was six feet underground. If you pay close attention to Biggie's music and even his character in the movie, you know that most of the time, everyone close to him in his life was wondering what the hell he was thinking. Sure, they could have implied more based on his actions, but many would have been outraged. This movie was made for the true Biggie fan, and that is who it pleased. It tells the beautiful story of a young man growing up in the armpit of the nation and rising to become one of the greatest icons of pop culture. One of the best lines in the movie is from P. Diddy's character: "You can throw me butt-naked in the jungle, and I'll come out with a with a chinchilla coat, a leopard hat and 10 pounds heavier from eating them!"
I love a good rags to riches story, and the fact that this one is about one of my favorite artists of all time just makes it that much better.

My 12th Favorite Movie of All Time - Do The Right Thing (1989)
#12 - Do The Right Thing (1989) starring Danny Aiello, Ossie Davis, Spike Lee - Rotten Tomato Score - 96%
Spike Lee, right during the heat of the issue, made one of the greatest movies on racism that I have ever seen. He dives head-first into the thick of things with wonderful color, scenery, characters, and music. Critics from the Chicago Sun Times said that this movie came closer to the way things really were in America at the time than any other movie like it. The movie is based around one hot, hot summer day in Brooklyn where things just escalate. Movies that take place in one day are usually pretty good, and this is no exception. If you have a particular hatred for racist behavior and social ignorance like myself, the last part of the movie will have your emotions firing on all cylinders.

My 13th Favorite Movie of All Time - Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
#13 - Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) - starring George Clooney & Merryl Streep - 93% Rotten Tomato Score
This movie is one that I can already tell will make nostalgic one day. So fun to just watch the animation, Wes Anderson delivers like he always does in this one. Usually when a children's book is stretched out into a film, it is a failure in my eyes (The Grinch, Cat in the Hat). I guess Where The Wild Things Are was alright. Anyways, back to Fantastic Mr. Fox. The soundtrack is amazing. I listen to it all the time. The plot is charming, all the characters are fun to watch, basically this entire movie is just a delightful experience. It is presented in a much different style than both traditional animation feature films and traditional animal movies. Just great.

My 14th Favorite Movie of All Time: Fight Club (1999)
#14 - Fight Club - starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter - 81% Rotten Tomato Rating
Everyone that sees Fight Club loves it. A Brad Pitt movie is hard to hate, and the movie keeps you entertained up to the last minute. It's a very original piece of work full of dark humor and amazing set design and style. All of the acting is incredible and the pace and feel of the movie are perfect. Every character seems so real. The movie was an instant cult classic, and if you haven't seen it, you MUST!

My 15th favorite film of All-Time: The Big Lebowski (1998)
Ok, so I'm going to wrap up my blogs with a 15-film countdown. I'm going to spread it out by three so they're not incredibly annoying. They may still be, no promises. I was going to do ten but there were some I just didn't want to part with. This'll put me a few over 30, but whatever.
DISCLAIMER: these are strictly my opinion. By no means do I think these are the greatest 15 films of all time. Not at all. Though I do enjoy them a lot. This list is for people who like the movies on this list to remember fondly :]
#15 - The Big Lebowski, starring Jeff Bridges & John Goodman - 80% Rotten Tomato Score
Absolutely hilarious. This is perhaps the role that Jeff Bridges is best known for. Comedies may be my favorite type of movie, and this film would be a huge reason why. Great dry humor throughout, the main character is so lovable and just has the greatest personality. "The Dude" is a breath of fresh air and is an inspiration to those who struggle to deal with stressful situations. As someone who typically has a more carefree perspective on things, I relate to this movie very well. My parents loved it when it came out and would always quote it growing up, and my brothers and I can recite most of the lines.

If You're Bored Over TG Break...
THESE SHOULD CURE IT.
This first video is my friend from Ball State, his friends are film majors and they used him to make a spoof of MTV's Cribs... some of you won't find it very funny, but I think it is xD
Warning: Please do not watch this if you're offended by profanity. Some think its funny, others do not. I have no desire for anyone to watch something they don't feel comfortable with.
The next are just really awesome songs. If you're looking for something new to listen to, I can usually help.
Hot Chip - I Feel Better - this music video is funny because the band that made the song is making fun of the band that made the video. Some boy band has this really cheesy music video and Hot Chip wrote a song that matched up perfectly with the way their mouths move, and its pretty entertaining and just downright impressive.
The xx - Crystalized
The xx - Heart Skipped A Beat
Lil Wayne & Grizzly Bear - Stuntin Like My Daddy/Two Weeks
Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis
Kanye West - All Falls Down (this is an old song, but the music video is sooo good and the lyrics are a lot different to hear now than they were in 5th grade when the song came out. Listen closely and you'll know what I mean)

Music Videos
I love music videos. I'm so stoked we're about to cover them in class, because they're among my favorite mediums. In four to five minutes, quite a story can be told, and film will always go hand-in-hand with music for me. I can't play a lot of instruments very well, and I'm not the best singer, but I love music. Luckily, I've been able to use my gifts to still have fun with music. A lot of my friends are musical and I've known a lot of bands growing up on a personal level, and I always liked doing music videos for them. Last year, in my TV class, something we did pretty frequently was make music videos. The videos we made then weren't very serious, and we were mostly trying to be funny, but they were still a lot of fun to shoot. Editing with a lip-sync is a brand new experience. Here's our parody of Enrique Iglesias's "Hero" last year. Pretty funny, but its obviously made by high schoolers who were simply handed Handycams and computers.

The Usual Suspects
This 1995 movie is one I always try to show people when they ask about a movie they should watch. For anyone who loves a good mystery, crime movie, or just loves being entertained by a very well-written story, this movie is something you should put on your long list of films to watch.
Yes, it's an action movie from the 90s, which leads many people to assume that it has become outdated. However, the movie attempts nothing that couldn't be pulled off realistically during the time period, the dialog is still funny to this day, the characters are easy to get to know and identify with, and the story keeps you guessing up until the last minute of the film.

Amazing Music Video
For any of you that like Grizzly Bear and appreciate sweet animation, you should watch this video. Its hard to tell what its about, but the style mixed with the great song is super captivating.

"There isn't anyone you couldn't love if you heard their story."

I love Mr. Rogers. I mean I used to dig his TV show, and then I thought he was weird, but I stumbled across this in today's reading for class and this quote is the shit. To me, it sums up everything about the goals of not just storytellers (us), and not just Christians (us), but especially someone who happens to be both (us).
The human story is very complicated--it has many complex natures packed into one and it is seemingly endless. We are all created in God's image. However, at least for me, this image is unclear. We get little tastes of it here and there from the people we meet and the experiences we have and they are all lovable in some way. My goal in life is to spread my experiences with people and events in such a way that many people from all walks of life can understand and appreciate the vast differences in human nature. I firmly believe that if we could understand more about each other and why we all seem so different, we could make peace. This is our HUGE task that I for one have very naively committed myself to. What matters is that I am up for the challenge.
Again: THIS IS THE ENTIRE REASON I AM EVEN ATTENDING COLLEGE. By ourselves, we can only learn through our own experiences about the wondrous nature of this world, but through the WONDERFUL gift of storytelling!--we have the potential to reach others on a very deep level and convey some of our most hidden motives without necessarily using words.
It takes time to understand a person, the decisions they make, the damage they do to themselves and others around them--but I can honestly say, even the nastiest, most rotten person I've ever met has proven Mr. Rogers right in my eyes. I love everyone I have ever come to know, regardless of their past or even their present or planned future. I believe everyone is trying to do good. This is the only truth I cling to and believe to be completely true.
If there's a message I want to send to this world, Mr. Rogers has summarized it quite nicely for me. Thanks dude.
My Favorite Music Video Ever
Pretty self-explanatory. I saw this video last year and it has to be at least in my top 3 music videos of all time. I love the story, the way its presented, I love the song by itself, the artist who originally performed it, the artist who covers the song, the DJ who does the remix, and the medium--film!--by which the story is told. If and when I do a music video, I want to shoot using this style. Pretty much everything about this just makes me happy. Hope y'all enjoy it too!

I'm That Guy
Just thought I'd share this with everyone since I'd put it together. This doesn't have to count as a blog credit, but I assembled most of the videos we've watched in class this semester into a list with links to where you can find them online. If you've enjoyed them as much as I have, you'll be happy to at least have a list of awesome things to watch when you need inspiration. Regardless, however, they will probably prove decent study tools when it comes down to it. Here you go
