Reading!!!

I’m constantly reading now. I’m always behind on it. I can’t keep up. And as much as is being stuffed in my brain just as much is being pulled out. I’m out of ideas for themes and subjects for papers.

Honestly, I’m not likely to read the materials in this class when I'm supposed to. I keep forgetting about it since I never remember to go to the website. I’m more likely to read a hard copy, and again I keep forgetting to print the material out. I’m trying to do better, but it’s a slow process. Most of the reading for today’s quiz I did early this morning as I tried to catch up. The day before that I was attempting to catch up in history before a test. The day before that it was Physics. I have to trade off on my reading in one to quickly make up for the other. I didn’t really pick up much from this haphazard appraisal of the text.

The reading guides are irritating. I end up having to read the whole thing twice because I want to enjoy argument in the paper the first time then I search the second time. OR I just end up using the “find” feature and fill in the blanks. And they still didn’t come in that handy as it seems when tested I forgot how to read English. I fumbled through the tattered quilt work of guides on my computer like I was Buster Keaton trying to get his house to stop spinning.

The “read, remember, regurgitate” form of the guides doesn’t match the context of the class in my opinion, which is more about what you feel and think than what you remember or what you’ve scribbled down.

So basically, when I get the chance to catch up on the reading I’d rather be concerned with drawing out some sort of meaning as opposed to skimming out certain points in a rushed attempt to be ready for a quiz. I really wish that the proof of my reading it could be done in another way. I see the obvious benefit to a deadline, but I don’t know...

Anyone else tired of being tired?

  1. Thanks for the feedback Matt,

I can't say I'm thrilled with the guides but I can't seem to depend on even half the class keeping up with the reading. I'm all ears for a better suggestion.

  2. I think the reading guides work well. I have been enjoying the readings. I will say I did have to add every reading assignment to my calendar because I would forget until the day of and do it during one of my breaks, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

The quiz was somewhat frustrating to me. It would be much easier if we had the questions on paper, or even if they were put on the displays in the classroom. By the time I had flipped through each reading guide to find the correct one, we were just about to move to the next question. I found myself focusing mostly on finding the right reading guide and missing what the question was. Other than that I have no issues with this system.
