It's something I stumbled on today. I watched it and it kind of reminded me of that elephant film we watched. Another bunch of tree huggers that made a short film about how we should love nature and try to save it. It's a good little short, and it has some good power behind it's images. ( Whispering deer give me goosebumps apparently)
But it raised some questions to my mind. How much of an impact do films really have on us? How many films like this have to be made to change someones heart? Is there really a point to these things at all?
I asked a lot of these sorts of questions, I think they are important questions to ask if you're going into a field that asks that you make a mark, shout your well reasoned statements, and ask others to listen. All these things would be easier if everyone else in the world wasn't also asking you to listen to their voice as well. Take youtube for example, the growing easy access to make your thoughts know in tweets, status updates, blogs, vlogs, film and music makes it so much harder for the individual to make their opinons know. Why do we want people to hear us so badly I wonder, why do we think what we have to say is important or life changing? Why are we worth it? Are we worth it, smart enough, creative enough, funny enough, insightful enough to even be looked at twice?
I think thats the most important question you have to ask yourself. Why are you worth hearing? No one can really answer that question for you and it's something you have to discover yourself and ask it for the rest of your life I think. Now I'm not saying you should be thinking these things in a totally emo way like "I'm not worth it bleeeh I'll just paint my nails and cry in my room where no one understands me" but in the critical way to help yourself grow as a person.
Don't think it's hopeless, obviously there are many things you can say have made a mark on your life that is of the media realm. From the cartoons you watched as a kid to that song you totally could relate to on the radio to the movie that changed your life there are so many stories in the world. The best part is realizing that you're one of them, and a way better story too because yours is written by the greatest Author of all.
I think the best way to go about it is to not expect whatever it is you create to touch the hearts of a nation, or change the thoughts of a people, or influence a cult following and make a mark on pop culture. It may be just one song, one movie, one story that will light up one persons eyes, give one girl hope, or teach a boy how to become a man of God. We are called to be fishers of men, I pray you have the right kind of bait for it.
