So I was about to shut my wee little eyes, iPod playing, head propped just right, with my eyes closing. When a song came on and my eyes shot open and I knew. Great I have to blog about this now.
Anyone who's listened to the band Relient K most likely knows what is, in my opinion, one of their most beautiful songs. No it's not the song gibberish, or sadie hawkins dance. I know Relient K, they've been my favorite band since I was in middle school. I even crowd surfed at one of their concerts in 8th grade. (Wait who likes the bands they liked in middle school?)
As I grew it seemed, so did the band. They impress me all the time with their witty lyrics and play on words and catchy tunes and silly songs. But what I love about them is the beautiful songs they do about God, and Jesus. I just feel now that I'm older, they are so much more real about things and God. That and I find their songs relateable and inspiring. (plus the love songs are super cute)
What is the most beautiful song they ever did? I'd argue strongly that it's the song Deathbed.
Just close your eyes and see the story playing in your head. It's incredibly sad isn't it? But even though I haven't made those same mistakes as this man in my life, I feel like I completely find myself relating. It's beautiful and tragic. It's so real with us and raw. Someone who was just ugly, had a terrible life, made terrible choices and ended up dying in a bed alone. I feel like outside the situation we look at that man and some wonder if there is a God or how he could let this happen to someone. But do you see how amazing God is? Through everything that happened even when "the blood dripped from your fangs" Jesus was there and stayed with him, until his life was through, and then when that day had come, He took him home. It tears me up everytime I hear that song. It proves that our God follows us until the very. last. second.
It also illustrates how short life is, 11 minutes is long for a song but it's like our life isn't it? Seems long but when you get to the end your like, oh the songs over. There's so much one can find in this one song. I love it.
I've felt drawn to do an animation to this song someday (don't steal my idea) so look forward to that challange... 11 mins oh man this song is long.
anyways... even if you've heard it, I want you to listen to it again k?
I love this song. I used to be able to sing it all the way through, not sure if I still can. I love how it has a kind of haunting feel, but then ends up alright in the end. He goes home after not really having a home. And it's beautiful.
