Kings

Ok, I could be wrong, but I remember Professor Leeper make a reference last week to David and Saul. Something along the lines of the dynamics of their relationship. Growing up, this story was about as flat as the flannelgraph it was so often told on. Within the past year and a half or so, I encountered a TV series that brought the story to life for me. "Kings" was originally aired on NBC, but due to a poor time slot (among other things) it was cancelled after only one season. Big mistake on NBC's part. For what it's worth, it quite possibly my favorite TV series ever. It sets the story of David and Saul in a modern constitutional monarchy. I think that both characters are given equal importance in this series. While several liberties with characterization and plot, I don't see it as a negative. It shows that theses were actual people; they desired what we desire. Not to mention a cast consisting of people like Ian McShane, Dylan Baker, and Brian Cox. The whole series is on Hulu. Go watch it sometime. Really. Go do it. This series was way too good for TV.
