"The Stain"

Just like the gravy stain gave the dysfunctional family a gory feeling, this short film did the same to me.  "The Stain" deeply disturbed me.  Why may you ask?  Was it the horror film version of Wallace and Grommet characters? The flipping back at forth, giving a chill with the animation and stop motion?  The music? or the fact that a baby was pushed down the stairs?  All of the above and than some, especially the fact that its based on a true story.

The film gave me the worse feeling i've had since watching "The Fridge" and that doesn't even hold a candle to "The Stain."  It's a stupid gravy stain, so lets kill each other.  Films like that can't help but make me think, what possessed someone to make a film about this?

Just this picture makes me feel strange...it's really hard to explain in detail why this film bugged me so much.  I guess its mostly the fact that everything in the film, from the "games" to the visual effects, it was all just plain wrong.
I grew up home schooled so it's not like I was sheltered to this kind of behavior because I was aware of these kinds of things going on in the world, possibly even in my crappy home town, but it just rubs me the wrong way when it's put on the screen.

That's just my thoughts...anyone else feel the same?

[Leeper practically begged us animation girls to basically create something that isn't what we witnessed with "The Stain"...no worries Prof. Leeper, I wont]

  1. I know what you mean Amanda! The over all tone was just "gross!" There's nothing "homey" about it. For me, the physical gravy stain that the newspaper's talked about had very little to do with the actual story. That's what is creepy too, how much we can focus on the insignificant details or just the wrong thing.

  2. I think the reason they made the film was because the filmmakers feel exactly the same way as you do about these things Amanda. They were just tired of people pretending they don't exist and therefore don't need to be addressed.
