And now as the semester winds down, I'd like to share ten of the most inspirational media related products that I've encountered.
Film truly is a visual medium. You can say all you want about how important its other components are, but if solid visuals aren't there, you chances are you won't have a quality film. Of all the films I've seen thus far, I'd say that The Fall is the most visually engaging. The color is constantly catching the eye without pulling you out of the movie. It focuses your attention to where it should be going. The costumes are elaborate and display a kind of heightened realism; all a part of Alexandria's imagination. What I love most about the visuals, though, are the settings. There's a reason this film took four years to complete. Every single scene was filmed on location. There was no shooting on a sound stage or studio; everything was done where it looks like it was done. They went all over the world: South Africa, India, Italy, Turkey, France. The director/writer/producer knew exactly what he wanted out of this film and he had the dedication to pull it off. I can't help but admire that. Plus when your story and characters are well developed, it's even better.
