OMGODFATHER!

I've always wanted to see this film. Mostly because, in the past, when someone would ask me about "The Godfather", and I would tell them that I'd never seen it, I would most often get a reaction that looked something like this:

Well, I can finally say I've done it. I've seen "The Godfather". And I can also say that I've gained much more than the relief of never having to see that silly face again. The only word I could use to describe this film is a "masterpiece". The script, the performances, the cinematography, the score, all worked seamlessly together to tell this dark tale of family, loyalty, money, murder, and love. Francis Ford Coppola deserves the highest respect for telling this story in the way he did.

The film is about 3 hours long. And that's the thing, it doesn't feel like it. And it ends so abruptly that it just leaves you wanting more (hence Part II). Marlon Brando and Al Pacino's performances are captivate and hold you throughout the entire movie. If you haven't seen this film, you should! But make sure you're ready. This film is dark. Lovers dying, assassination attempts on family, domestic abuse, all of these themes given in a strong dose that some might not be ready to swallow. But when you think you're ready (if that day comes) and you have 3 hours to watch this cultural masterpiece, then I suggest you get on that ASAP. There is so much to this film that even if I were to try to condense it, I would be writing for another hour and I wouldn't even be able to give it justice. To say that I was moved after seeing it is the understatement of the century.

This is a film that must be experienced on your own. You will NOT be disappointed. Affected deeply probably, but not disappointed.

  1. I actually saw this film for the first time about a month ago. I thought it was only pretty good. I really did like Marlon Brando though. (I'm working on my impersonation of his character.) It takes a lot of patience to get through however.
