Yeah, Star Wars and stuff

Alright, so it's been a while since I've done any blogging. Might as well pick back up on a short film that concerns one of my favorite movie series ever. Yes, even after all the mind-expanding films that my coursework here has exposed me to, I still love Star Wars. All of Star Wars. Yes, that means the prequels too. Yes, I'll agree that there are prominent places where the writing/directing was not well thought out, but the appeal of those movies transcends those flaws. I'll never forget seeing Phantom Menace for the first time in theaters; two words: Darth Maul. I mean, really, who here can say that he was not one of the most badass movie villains you had ever seen? For my nine year old self, this was great stuff! And yeah, so I'm not nine anymore and I know enough to see the shortcomings that pop up, but that doesn't mean that I can't enjoy them anymore. I wouldn't say that all of them are masterpieces in the history of cinema, but for me, they kind of take on the kind of acceptance I would show to a family member: they have their flaws, but I still love them.

  1. The prequels weren't that bad. "Revenge of the Sith" might be my favorite Star Wars movie, but I don't know. I just felt the prequels never captured the same spirit of the originals. I mean, the only flaw I found the in the first trilogy was the ewoks. Man, I didn't like those teddy bears.

  2. I personally like all of the Star Wars pictures. I think that the main story of the Empire taking over the Republic is played very well through all of them.
Besides, they got Ewan McGregor in them! How bad can they be?

Stephen, I totally get your point about the prequels not capturing the original's spirit. They just aren't as classic!
But at the same time I feel like the tone of the prequels doesn't have to be the same as the original's for it to work.
For me, 1,2,3 have a much more darker feel to them, even in moment's of triumph for the characters because you know that eventually the republic will be broken.

The original 4,5,6 I feel have a happier tone because you don't know what's coming next. There is still that one ray of hope that Luke somehow might just defeat Vader! But for the majority who watch the prequels they know that one way or the other that helmet has to go on Anakin Skywalker.
