Blood Simple

Gosh I loved this movie. Now I like the Coen Brothers, I really do, but not too many of their films just "Wow" me. I loved True Grit but I felt as if that wasn't truly their movie since it was a remake. Anyway that's not what this blog is about. I wanna try and sell to you all this movie that I went to last night. Now I was already in a bad mood because of the rain and that all too familiar lurking variable of stress hanging over me, so I reluctantly approached this movie. All that's ok now, cause I absolutely loved it. Completely original with a style comparable to a mix of Shakespearean tragedy and Alfred Hitchcock's thrillers, "Blood Simple" takes her audience on a twisting trail to discover what happens to the truly wicked people in this world. This is where we see Shakespeare "bleed" (pardon the pun) through the plot and recall us to all too familiar stories like "Macbeth" or "Richard III" but in a completely original way that only the Coen brothers could have conquered. We follow the intertwined affairs of a hit man, adulteress, her lover, and the vindictive husband, however ironic these characters are all who they seem (which was a breath of fresh air for me). How the Coen brothers mixed this clear conflict and add a considerable amount of irony, delicious twists, and an appropriate dose of thriller makes me think of Alfred Hitchcock. On a last note, this movie was used and manipulated artwork. In every genre of entertainment different aspects are manipulated to display the artwork the creator wants to get out. In "Blood Simple", the Coen brothers kneaded in a beautiful framework of artistic shots that spoke of consistency and their twisted story. I applaud this movie and hope that you all will partake in it at some point as filmmakers that might be necessary. Make sure you note as you do watch it the use of the shots to enhance the story.
