I must say that I agree with Dr. Leeper on one thing. I think when he said that people have a tendency to read things into the films that they create, they do it by what they have been brought up with. They don't intentionally do it, it is just in their programming to do so. I believe that C.S. Lewis has done this with the Chronicles of Narnia. I regret that I have not yet read the books, but in watching the movie I feel that He accurately describes the battle that goes on spiritually in our lives. It shows the white witch as this beautiful lady that is adorned in a white dress and has a crown of ice. She pretends to be nice and offers him anything that she can to satisfy his hunger. She also offers him his hearts desire, to be above his brother. Isn't that what satan wanted? He said, " I shall arise, I shall be like the most high." That is one of the best descriptions of Satan. I am not saying that it is male or female, but the bible does talk about how Satan portrays himself as an angel of light to deceive the brethren. She does a pretty good job of deceiving Edmond and almost kills him in the process. Now I don't want to read to much into it just because, like the one artist that he showed today, it may be too much. I am just saying that there are some definite similarities. The stone table is another example of the relation between the bible and the movie. I think that what this process is can be known as the rocks crying out. It says in Luke 19:40 " I tell you he replied if they keep quiet the stones will cry out" This could be related to anything. If we as Christians aren't doing our job who will? The Rocks will. Am I the only one who thinks this?

Reading into things!

I used to love the books. The Horse and his Boy was always my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right. But I also think sometimes we have a tendancy to read into things the opposite way they were brought. Like, they see it from their parent's view, and they know what their parents would get out of the movie/film/book, but they want their own opinion about it, so they purposely disregard that, and try to view it with the opposite point of view. I know I've down that, having been a very stubborn child who refused to accept my parents' views simply because they were the views of my parents.
In the books, the very first book paints the white witch as a fallen queen, if I remember correctly. Also, I find that how she's so white and icy, and void of life, almost kind of makes me think that she's the opposite of Aslan who's full of life and color and vibrancy.
The rocks already kind of have their own silent witness. I mean the Grand Canyon is huge and awesome and just a witness in a way, that even though it never opens it's mouth and yet it practically screams what it is and who made it. If the rocks are already screaming out their secret, are we doing our job at all?
