Whoo's that Girl?

It's Jess!

So I just watched the 20 minute pilot episode for New Girl. I've been looking forward to this show for the last couple months mainly because of the lead actress. Zooey Duschanel is known to be hollywoods indie sweetheart, not only that but she's a talented singer that has her own band called She & Him ( I own most of her songs there) She's well known for her roles in Elf (she was blond) She was in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Failure to Launch, Yes Man, and my absolute favorite movie of all time (500) Days of Summer. She's been coming up in some newer movies like My Idiot Brother, and Your Highness. But now she's got her own sitcom and I'm so incredibly stoaked!
Zooey is known by those that love her to be quirky, odd, snarky, adorable, and funny. By those that don't love her, I guess they find her just odd and annoying. Personally if I were a man she'd be my lady crush for sure.
Anyways on with my review I suppose. SPOILERS i guess. So Zooey's playing her character Jessica Day, a girl who in an embarrassing sequence of events, discovers her boyfriend fooling around with some other girl and thus, needs to find a new place of residence. She finds an add on craigslist and finds herself moving in with three guys that need a fourth roommate. The three guys played by Max Greenfield, Damon Wayans Jr. and Jae M. Johnson. Then there's also Jess' best friend (who's a model) played by Hannah Simone. Jess spends her time in her new abode watching Dirty Dancing 6-7 times a day crying until the guys decide they need to help her get past her heart break and get back into life Despite her dorky exterior
The Pilot is only 20 min so the story moves a tiny bit fast for my liking but they managed to make it work with what they had. So there's some "humorous" parts that were a bit off but most of the time I found myself and my girlish cohorts laughing at Zooey and her zaneyness. There's a lot of great moments and the I like how the characters don't settle into the sterotypes they could so easily fall into. I like how Zooey's character is proactive and doing something about her situation, and how the three guys (each a moron in his own way) have their own quirks but still have the ability to learn and grow through the serise should it continue. I really want it to continue because I do see a lot of potention as a sitcom. It may not be the next Seinfeld, but it's defiantly something I'll be keeping up with.

  1. GAH! I love 500 days of summer! I wish I could join in on the discussion on her new show but I haven't seen it :(
Glad to hear it was great. She's a new kind of actress and brings something different to her movies, at least the ones i've seen.
