The Apostle-My thoughts Finally

I had been there when the movie was shown, but had been holding out till now, since I went and watched the movie again to try to understand
something. Now I guess I can write out my thoughts. I first
of all really enjoyed the film. It was the first film that I’ve seen that the
subject of Christianity or the gospel is portrayed by a flawed character, and which
necessarily didn’t end in an expecting
happy ending. Yet, I liked Sonny , he really showed that we as humans are
messed up, even Christians. Mistakes are going to be made and temptations are
going to be there and the question is did you really try to be faithful to God?
At first in the beginning Sonny was displaying lukewarm faith, putting on a
show but ignoring the service which reminded me of Revelations 3:1-17, about
the different types of faith or beliefs shown in the different churches. And
Sonny was displaying lukewarm faith and then all these bad things started
happening to him and it wasn’t until he was at his lowest point did he actually
start to follow God with faith, stopped with the whole showing off personality
and actually started doing the service of God with all of his heart. Of course
he had trouble along the way, but now with his new renowned faith, it seemed
like things were lighting up for Sonny because he actually decided to let God
do his workings, instead of him thinking he knew the way on his own. Although
the ending was a bit sad when he was sent to prison, it kind of reminded me of
Revelation 4:8-11, that for believers the end will be a time of rejoicing,
which is exactly what Sonny was doing. Despite being in prison he was still
doing service to God and rejoicing instead of mourning. The whole last scene,
made me think of different situations that we go through in life and we can
either be mourning, being angry and frustrated or like Sonny keep doing service
to glorify God and know that God will always be there with us through it all.
