Some of you might have respect for classic films like Monty Python and the Holy Grail. However, the comedies that are being shown today you dislike. Why? Is it because they are more inappropriate than they used to be? I personally don't find old comedy films funny at all. I think they are cheesy and boring. But maybe that's just me.
My favorite comedy actor is Will Ferrall. Even though I'm sure some of you hate his guts, I believe he is a comedy genius. Some people believe he just gets on camera and acts like an idiot, but what he does takes talent. There's a fine line between stupid and talent.
I always hear people say things like "comedy films are garbage," "those films are filling our minds up with filth," and "those are not good films." I believe that "good" films are films that have a good purpose. Whether it is teaching a lesson about life, or telling an important story a good film has a purpose. What do comedy films teach us? Usually nothing. However, the one thing good comedy films do the best is to make us laugh and put a smile on our faces. To me when it comes to "good" things, happiness tops the charts. Even if you don't find some movies humorous they are art. Just because I don't find someone's favorite love story to be moving, doesn't mean it isn't a good piece of art. Just because a piece of art doesn't relate to me doesn't mean it isn't art. If you don't enjoy comedies and you think some newer comedy is too vulgar to be an art form I believe you are wrong.... well that's my opinion anyway.
I'm so glad you posted on comedy! It reminds me of something Orson Welles once said, "There are very few people who take comedy seriously". Orson Welles believed that comedies were the best plays and movies. He would often throw in a bit of cheesy slap-stick acts in his films just because he liked it.
ReplyDeleteIt is very true that comedy is a form of art. You can't just make anything funny. It's not easy to put a smile on people's faces and make them laugh. I think to make a successful comedy is harder than making a successful tragedy. But that's just me.
I completely agree with you Bobby. Although Will Ferral can be overly crude sometimes, his comedic timing is fantastic. You can always tell that Will Ferral enjoys being in character, which I think makes his performances funnier! If comedies are considered "bad" movies then how come everyone keeps making them? Because like you said, comedies bring some happiness into people's lives.
