Medea

No, this has absolutely nothing to do with Tyler Perry. It's a story by Euripides, an ancient Greek playwright, which will be featured in the HUTC's spring program, and also will be the subject of my senior project. It's a lovely little tale of how Medea, a foreign woman, is cast aside by her husband so that he can marry a younger woman who comes with political power. Medea becomes consumed with taking revenge on her husband, which she completes by murdering the people he loves most, including her own children. Yes, this will happen in our own Zurcher Auditorium. Now you may be wondering why on earth the university would be putting on a grisly show like this. One, ancient Greek plays are rarely tackled by university theatre companies. Two, the subject matter is completely relevant to a modern audience. Just watch the news. Sadly, you'll hear of horrors often enough that make this story look tame. The great thing about theatre is, like film, it's as safe a place as any to explore topics like this. I'm not saying this is something you'll regret if you miss out on it...ok, maybe I am. But really, it'll be worth it.
