My Inspirations: #2 The Last Temptation of Christ

I don't find it surprising that so many Christians were incensed when this movie first came out. At first glance, it seems to portray Jesus in a way that's less than holy, but I see it differently. To me, it a fantastic “what if” story. What if Jesus decided to have it his way, to avoid death on a cross and live out the rest of his days on earth as a man? Could you even imagine? We so often picture Jesus as the Son of God, and rightly so. But he was human as well. He must have had desires and temptations like the rest of us. There have been other films that postulate the idea of Christ marrying a woman and having offspring, but none more in-your-face than this film. He's unsure of himself; he second guesses what God has for his life on earth, but by the end of it all, he realizes that yes, he must die on the cross for all of humanity. He submits to the Father's will. You could also watch something like Jesus Christ Superstar as well to get a take on him that emphasizes his human nature, but don't pass this one by because of the controversy surrounding it. If anything, that's exactly why you should watch it. Don't just take my word for it. Allow it to challenge you.
