From the first time I picked up the first book, I knew I had found something worth reading. While nothing is new under the sun, it was certainly a wonderful take on the same old story we've heard before. As Stephen King so aptly put it, “Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity.” In addition to all this, it gave me a great new understanding of what evil is, or at least can be. Consider this: In the beginning, God created humankind in His image as we were meant to be, to our fullest potential. Once we chose to rebel against Him, we fell from the perfection that was granted to us, essentially becoming less human in the process. Dehumanization is the result of evil. The more we choose to oppose God and his inherent goodness, the more we fall from what we could have been and the more inhuman we become. What is truly pitiable about Voldemort is that he's fallen so far that he doesn't even realize that he thinks that his actions have made him a superior human, when, in all actuality, he's so far lost that there's very little left to identify him as a human. But even he was not entirely lost. Rowling stated that there was the possibility of remorse for his actions, although he clearly did not see it. The more evil one indulges in, the more one is numbed to it. This is something that I strive to guard myself against.
AMEN!
