Hey, Robby Scheribel here! This is just a little intro post to better acquaint you all with me and my interests. I've been interested in movies for a long time. Lord of the Rings would probably have to be the single biggest influence on me as a film maker and an artist; I've watched the special features on that so many times I literally have some of them memorized. But before I ever became interested in film, I was an artist. Plan and simple. I still consider myself more of an artist, per say, then a filmmaker, I just choose to pursue my art through film, mostly because it really incorporates all my interests; painting, drawing, photography, writing, etc.
Pixar is another huge influence on me. Although I'm not an animator and don't really intend to go into animation, the craftsmanship of their stories transcends the medium they use. Yes, a medium, not a genre, but that's for another discussion (perhaps a future blog post?).
I'm also, as I'm sure most of you are, a huge fan of old flix. Alfred Hitchock, Frank Capra, etc. Some of my favorites include Rear Window, Wait Until Dark, Strangers on a Plan, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and Harvey.
I'm also a huge fan of actors. I know someone posted earlier about a quote from Hitchcock that actors should be "treated like cattle." As much as a love Hitchcock, I'd have to totally disagree with his statement here. Actors can certainly make or break a movie. I can't tell you how often I've heard bad lines made wonderful through the delivery ("I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you" anyone?).
Anyways, that's enough ranting from me for now!
Hi... I was the one that posted that Hitchcock quote. lol I posted that quote because I find it hilarious and very ironic. I too, agree that actors are very influential in making a movie great. I find that quote ironic because most of the actors in Hitchcock's movies are praised for their roles those movies. Hitchcock is an actor's director. I just think he never really wanted to admit that.
ReplyDeleteI love that line in Return of the King, what a powerful moment! I have to agree with you and Rachel about actors. They are so influential! I love it when they can seem to peer straight into the heart of their characters, things that even the writers couldn't have dreamed of! How exciting! I have to agree with Robby about how you feel more of an artist than a Filmmaker, I myself know that God has given me the gift of storytelling and film just seems to be the medium.... Creating art....its no trivial thing!
ReplyDeleteBTW...Harvey is a great movie!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites.
